OTTAWA, Ontario, October 4, 2011 - General Dynamics Canada employees in Ottawa, Calgary and Halifax rallied in support of the annual Canada Army Run, raising more than $5000 for Canada's Soldier-On Fund. Held in Ottawa on September 18, 2011, 130 employees signed-up for the five-kilometer and half marathon events with others participating in related fundraising and awareness efforts that included encouraging employees to wear red on Fridays as a show of support for Canadian troops. The sponsoring organization received a check from General Dynamics Canada on race day.

"This year, General Dynamics Canada had a 55 percent increase in participation over last year," says Dave Ibbetson, general manager, General Dynamics Canada. "This increased level of participation shows just how inspired and motivated our employees are by the courage, grit and determination that Canadian Forces personnel bring to their jobs every day."

Activities supporting the run also included an employee-led 'learn to run' clinic to help participants learn best practices for endurance running and effective training techniques in anticipation of the 5k race. For employees who could not join the General Dynamics Canada team in Ottawa for the race, unofficial employee runs were offered in Calgary and Halifax which allowed employees to be virtually connected to the team in Ottawa.

General Dynamics Canada has sponsored the event since its inception in 2008. The theme for the 2011 run was "Many Stories, One Inspiring Run" and fundraising efforts generated close to $60,000.
