World's first fully digital Ballistic Computer System
Our extensive experience with fire control systems includes the design and manufacture of the world's first fully digital Ballistic Computer System (BCS) for the U.S. Army's XM-1 Program, which became the Abrams series of Main Battle Tanks. The BCS hardware and application software is the heart of the tank's fire control system, which also includes sensors, sight(s), and gun control equipment. General Dynamics has built over 10,000 BCSs, and has expanded its role in the program to address not only Direct Fire, but also Indirect Fire and Non-Line of Sight fire control systems.
Fire control systems for armored fighting vehicles
Beyond the BCS, we have been actively involved in the development of advanced fire control systems for armored fighting vehicles for more than ten years. To support our efforts in this area we designed and built our own armored vehicle test bed, with emphasis on crew information display, soldier-machine interface, and automatic target detection, recognition and tracking.
Based on our extensive experience and expertise with fire control systems for applications worldwide, we can tailor a solution specific to each customer's unique needs through adaptation of current products or development of a custom system.
